Bubar !!!

Karena nama mereka udah terkenal, mereka mulai merambah bisnis laen. Tom dan Mark bikin label clothing ATTICUS dan MACBETH, Travis join ama temennya bikin label FAMOUS STARS AND STRIPES. Mareka juga udah mulai bikin band sampingan. Mulai dari sini masalah mulai timbul. Tom bikin band bareng Travis yang namanya BOX CAR RACER dan sukses ngluarin satu album dengan single I Feel So. Akhirnya Mark mulai ngambek, seperti yang dikutip majalah Kerrang!, BETRAYED katanya…Dia ngerasa ga diajak (ya iyalah, kalo dia diajak sama aja namanya blink 182!).

Geffen Records merilis GREATEST HITS pada 1 Nopember 2005 di US, di dalamnya termasuk unreleased track Another Girl Another Planet (sebuah cover song dari The Only Ones) dan bonus track Not Now. Banyak yang bilang kalo lagu Not Now itu lagu blink yang terbaru.

Kabarnya tanggal 22 Februari 2005, Blink 182 resmi bubar. Tanggal 23 Mei 2006, Tom mengumumkan band barunya ANGEL AND AIRWAVES yang kemudian merilis album WE DONT NEED TO WHISPER. Ga mau kalah, Mark dan Travis juga bikin band +44 yang kemudian merilis album WHEN YOUR HEART STOPS BEATING pada 14 Nopember 2006.

  • Blink-182

Album mereka Enema of the State dan Take Off Your Pants and Jacket menjadi puncak dari 14 tahun karir mereka di dunia musik. Tak mau berlama - lama tanpa drummer, Tom dan Hoppus mengajak salah satu teman mereka Travis Bakker (mantan drummer The The Aquabats) menjadi drummer tetap Blink 182.

Setelah Travis masuk, karir mereka semakin melambung…1999 mereka mengeluarkan Enema of the State, yang terjual sampai lebih dari 10 juta kopi, dan menjadikan All the Small Things lagu wajib bagi para anak muda seluruh dunia. Pada 2001 mereka merilis Take Off Your Pants and Jacket yang semakin melambungkan nama mereka menjadi super band dunia dan menjadikan mereka sejajar dengan band - band top macam U2, Foo Fighter, dan The Cure.

  • Angels and Airwaves

Just before all the blink-182 stuff happened when we were in Europe, I had a really weird epiphany. My heart was beating about a hundred miles a minute for three weeks straight and it had never happened to me before in my life. I really felt like I’d been touched by something and I felt I was meant to do something massive.Album mereka We Don’t Need to Whisper rillis 23 mei 2006, dengan first singlenya the Adventure, Angels and Airwaves akan lebih rock and roll daripada Blink 182, sepeti yang disebut Tom “”the greatest rock’n’roll revolution of this generation” and “more emotional than Blink 182 and Box Car Racer put together”.

  • +44

In the life of every band, there comes a time to take stock; to reflect on goals set and goals achieved; to offer a silent prayer of thanksgiving for the many blessings so richly bestowed upon us.

For blink-182, this is not the time.

They’re too busy touring the world, scarfing Sombrero’s burritos, farting and rocking the planet till the ozone layer disintegrates. In the recent past, blink-182 won a Teen Choice Award, a Blockbuster Music Award, and appeared on the MTV Awards ‘00 where they performed “All The Small Things” and won Best Group Video. In Europe they received an MTV Europe Award for Best New Act. They performed on Saturday Night Live and the Tonight Show (twice), appeared in American Pie and opened the Billboard Music Awards. The band also graced the covers of Rolling Stone, Alternative Press (twice), Teen People, Teen and CosmoGirl, just to name a few.

It’s safe to say the blink-182 is now a worldwide phenomenon, with their records reaping platinum and their concert tours packing ‘em in all across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Americas. And earlier this year, blink-182 ventured back to the studio with producer Jerry Finn to record their fourth studio album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (you should say the title out loud to fully appreciate the subtle, sophisticated humor).

By every indication, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is turning out to be an evolutionary hybrid for blink-182, as hooky as 1999’s multi-platinum Enema of the State, but with all the punk spirit of their MCA debut album Dude Ranch. “This is the hardest, fastest record that we’ve done,” says blink’s Tom DeLonge of the upcoming album. “It’s way more punk-rock than our previous records, and we’re excited about it.” Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (release date 6/12/01) follows Enema of the State and last year’s smash live album The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back).

The band’s popularity has only increased since their formation in ‘93. They began building momentum with a string of popular 7″s, and in 1994 they released their first full-length album, Cheshire Cat, on Grilled Cheese (a division of Cargo Music). In 1996, they signed a joint-venture record deal with Cargo Music and MCA Records, with their first MCA release Dude Ranch (1997) setting the stage for their current success. By the end of 1998, they had emerged as one of the most popular pop-punk bands of the year – the album went platinum in the U.S. and the year-end Billboard Airplay Monitor Report (BDS) stats indicated that “Dammit (Growing Up)” from Dude Ranch earned top spins at many key radio stations.

Blink-182 took a break from the road after Christmas ‘98 to begin pre-production for Enema Of The State, recorded in the band’s hometown of San Diego at Signature Sound. Handling production duties was Jerry Finn, whose previous credits include Green Day and Rancid. Enema Of The State shattered the standard set by Dude Ranch. World-wide sales are now over seven million copies, not to mention the fact that the CD perched high atop the upper-reaches of Billboard’s Top 200 for over a year. The album’s three singles, “What’s My Age Again,” “All The Small Things” and “Adam’s Song” dominated MTV, alternative, rock and Top-40 radio.

Their summer tour, where The Mark, Tom & Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back) was recorded, sold a third of a million tickets. The aforementioned album was a 20-track collection of live versions of classic blink-182 hits produced by Jerry Finn, and also contained never-before-released songs, a new studio track, and all the hilarious potty-mouthed one liners a fan could want. In its limited release, The Mark, Tom & Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back) sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. In other Blink-182 news, a massive U.S. summer 2001 tour is on the drawing boards, and a book about the band’s early days, written by Hoppus’ younger sister, Anne, now carries a title, Tales From Beneath Your Mom. It’s scheduled to hit bookstores in mid-September.

Who knows what’s next for the band? There’s an old expression “You can’t turn chicken shit into chicken salad.” But, in the case of blink-182, you can really put chicken shit in someone’s chicken salad.

Blink-182

Hilangnya satu anggota tentu butuh pengganti ,Travis Barker mantan drummer Aquabats bergabung.

Kesuksesan blink semakin menanjak 2001, mereka melontarkan “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” kepasar.

kita tunggu ajah kapan meeka reunian lagi……

[edit] Early years

DeLonge was raised by his mother and father in Poway, California. He has an older brother, Shon, and a younger sister, Kari. Tom was expelled from Poway High School during junior year after being caught drinking at a school basketball game. He went to Rancho Bernardo High School, where he developed an interest in punk rock. Some of his influences have been The Cure, Descendents and Screeching Weasel. When he returned to Poway High School during his senior year, the students voted him Homecoming King, despite the fact he wasn’t on the ballot.

[edit] Musical career

[edit] Blink-182 (1992-2005) and Box Car Racer (2002-2003)

When DeLonge attended Rancho Bernardo High School, he was introduced to Mark Hoppus through Hoppus’ sister, Anne. In 1992, they met Scott Raynor and decided to form a band together that would become Blink-182. Raynor was replaced with Travis Barker in 1998 amidst many rumours of Raynor’s possible alcoholism and drug addictions[citation needed], just as Blink-182 released Enema of the State, which was met with a huge amount of mainstream success, spawning three hit singles. Follow-up Take Off Your Pants and Jacket went straight to No.1 on the Billboard 200. After DeLonge and Barker participated in the band Box Car Racer, a side project created by DeLonge with his high-school friend David Kennedy in 2002. In 2003 Blink-182 released their final eponymous album. Delonge then decided to leave the band, allegedly due to mounting tensions and communication difficulties, creating a rift between him and the other members of the band. Blink-182 announced an ‘indefinite hiatus’ in February 2005.

While there is no set plan for Blink 182 to reunite, the band’s management commonly responds to questions about the possibility by saying “no one knows what tomorrow may bring”.[1] Barker stated in an interview “I guess we are seeing the real Tom”, questioning DeLonge’s attitude towards his former band, and his new project. DeLonge for his part has said that he would like to eventually reunite Blink-182, but not until he continues his career in Angels & Airwaves for a while, because otherwise “it would be a waste of time”. In a later interview, Delonge confirmed that “Blink 182 was dead” and “…people ask me if I’m ever going back to Blink, there’s just no possible way”.[2]

[edit] Angels & Airwaves (2005-present)

DeLonge is the lead vocalist and one of two guitarists in the alternative rock band Angels & Airwaves. He formed the band with high-school friend and former Hazen Street and Box Car Racer bandmate David Kennedy on guitar, as well as former The Offspring drummer Atom Willard and former The Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn. They released their debut, We Don’t Need to Whisper in 20 May 2006. During the recording of their second album, I-Empire (November 6, 2007), Ryan Sinn quit and was replaced by former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. He still covers Blink-182 songs, such as “Down“, “I Miss You“, “Not Now“, and “Reckless Abandon” with Angels & Airwaves, along with Box Car Racer songs “There Is” and “My First Punk Song”. In 2008, Angels and Airwaves headlined the Vans Warped Tour.

[edit] Signature guitars

Fender Guitars worked with DeLonge to create the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster (signature guitar) which consisted of a solid alder body fitted with a single Seymour Duncan Invader Bridge pickup. It was controlled by a lone volume knob adding to its simple design. At first, the Stratocasters were fitted with an American 2-Point tremolo system and was later replaced by a hardtail bridge. Its neck consisted of solid maple with a rosewood fretboard, although there have been some custom Stratocaster’s that were fitted with maple fretboards. The necks included a large 70’s CBS headstock and Sperzel locking tuners.[3]

Since 2003, with the recording of the untitled album, DeLonge also has a signature Gibson ES-333 guitar out available in brown with cream stripes. The Tom DeLonge Signature starts with Gibsons classic semi-hollowbody design and then extents it into punk rock with an overwound ‘Dirty Fingers’ humbucking pickup. Its thick, distorted tone is the signature sound of DeLonge’s previous band Blink-182.[4]

On Angels and Airwaves albums, We Don’t Need to Whisper and I-Empire Tom uses his signature Gibson ES-333 which is custom made from the Gibson custom shop. Epiphone has since come out with a lower cost version of the Tom Delonge signature guitar, manufactured overseas, but fitted with the same Dirty Fingers humbucker.

[edit] Personal life

DeLonge lives with his wife Jennifer, daughter Ava Elizabeth (born July 15, 2002), son Jonas Rocket (born on August 16, 2006), German Shepard Grey, and Labrador Retriever Chloe in Rancho Santa Fe, California. He supported John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election as a Democrat. In an interview with absolutepunk.net he also named Barack Obama as his ideal presidential candidate, although he also said “Hillary [Clinton] will actually do very well.”[1]

He is the owner of Macbeth Footwear, which he founded together with Mark Hoppus and a friend, although he now runs the company without Hoppus. He has sold his share in Atticus Clothing, which he also started with Hoppus.

Tom was also hinted a vegetarian on MTV.

Biography

Mark Hoppus was born in Ridgecrest, California on March 15, 1972.[2] At the age of 15, Hoppus got his first bass guitar as a gift from his dad and earned money for a set of amplifiers by helping him paint his garage.[3] Hoppus never took bass lessons, instead he taught himself by playing to bands such as the Descendents, The Cure, and Bad Religion. Hoppus played by himself and sang in the band Pier 69, primarily covering songs by The Cure. He also played in a band called The Attic Children in 1988, during this time he lived in Washington D.C. He later moved to San Diego, where his sister Anne (now Anne McMurray[1]) introduced him to Tom DeLonge in August 1992. DeLonge was a friend of Anne’s at the time, and constantly complained about wanting to join a band. When Hoppus first went over to DeLonge’s house, he was told DeLonge would be at the local skate park. Hoppus went over and found DeLonge skateboarding with his friends. Hoppus wanted to impress DeLonge, so he climbed on a lamp post, jumped off and cracked both ankles and heels and was on crutches for three weeks. He then started playing with DeLonge in his garage and they recruited original drummer, Scott Raynor. They went on to form Blink. In 1998, Travis Barker joined the band during a tour in California. Blink-182 went on to record many more albums which made the band very successful. The band recorded two number one hits, “All the Small Things” and “I Miss You“. As of 2005 the band went on an indefinite hiatus. Hoppus wanted to continue to write music so he started +44, a new band with fellow Blink-182 band mate Travis Barker. In 2006 they released their first album entitled When Your Heart Stops Beating. The band have recently signed a deal with Interscope Records and are currently in production of their second studio album.[4]

When asked about a possible Blink-182 reunion, Hoppus usually replies with “I don’t know. Ten years ago I would never guess that I would be where I am now, I can’t guess where I’ll be ten years from now.”[5]

Personal life

Hoppus married Skye Everly in 2000 after meeting on the set of Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” video shoot. Two years later, Skye gave birth to their son, Jack Hoppus on August 5, 2002. The three currently reside in Los Angeles, California. On August 11, 2008 in an article released, Mark is suing a father and son who lied to him about automated checkout machines at McDonald’s restaurants. Mark invested more than half a million dollars in it back in October 2003. [6]

Musical gear

Hoppus has been seen sporting his signature Fender Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass in a variety of different colors since the days of Blink-182. Though considered to be a Precision Bass, Hoppus’s signature consists of a Jazz Bass body with a Precision Bass neck and pickup. Recently, Hoppus’s signature underwent a slight modification. The bodies are now made of Ash instead of Alder, making the bass lighter. The pickup locations were switched from their usual positions. The pickup that was placed under the E and A strings was also placed under the D and G strings and moved above the original position, placed higher than the pickup under the E and A strings, giving the D and G bass strings a warmer, thicker bass sound. The pickups Hoppus uses are Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pound pickups, the same as is on the Fender Precision Bass. The current colors of his +44 touring basses include Olympic White, Sunburst and See-Through Blond all coupled with a tortoise shell pickguard. Besides his signature basses, Hoppus was seen using one other bass guitar live on stage: the six-stringed Fender Bass VI, most notably for the song “I Miss You”.[3] Prior to the use of Fender Basses, Hoppus heavily used Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray basses in various colors during the early days of Blink-182 up until the early Enema of the State period.

For live sound, Hoppus plugs his basses into three Ampeg SVT Classic bass heads running into two Ampeg 8×10 SVT bass cabs. Prior to the use of the all-tube SVT Classic heads, Hoppus used two Ampeg SVT-4 Pro heads which only feature a tube preamp.

Companies

Hoppus and Tom DeLonge co-owned two companies, Atticus and Macbeth Athletics, Hoppus has since sold his share in both companies; as well as loserkids.com.[7]

HiMyNameIsMark

“HiMyNameIsMark” (also known as ‘The Morning Zoo’) is a podcast that was set up in the wake of the hiatus by Hoppus, and can be found at HiMyNameIsMark.com. Every few weeks he released a show of songs by underground bands, interviews with band members and/or friends, and reminisces about happenings in his life. He is often joined on the show by his friends Chris Holmes (+44’s engineer) and James Ingram (+44’s assistant engineer). In 2005 Hoppus won the “Best Podcast” award, beating out many of the hottest podcasts.

Non-Musical

Mark Hoppus was a guest actor on an episode of the UPN show, Haunted, back in 2002.[8] He also wrote columns for Risen Magazine’s March/April and May/June 2005 issues entitled “Beyond Us”.[9]. Mark Hoppus was also confirmed to be a part of the 2008 film, “One Nine Nine Four”, a movie about punk rock in the 90’s.
